-Butterfly-

Inside it screams, inside it hides
The shell of a person, a prison, a life
A portrait of shadows, a view so distorted
The world cannot see what lies buried within
The fear, the questions, the unknown so haunting
To wither and die, then be born again
In an world so cruel
Inside it screams, inside it hides
The shell of a person, a prison, a life
A portrait of shadows, a view so distorted
The world cannot see what lies buried within
The fear, the questions, the unknown so haunting
To wither and die, then be born again
In an world so cruel, and often unaccepting
Where judgment is common place and words stab like knives
Where eyes seek answers not understanding
And hate comes to greet you like a thief in the night
Bear witness to fools and their fear of the unknown
While they throw their stones and belittle at will
Anyone hoping for an easy transition
Must walk through a gauntlet with gears set to kill
Quietly hopeful and praying for ease
Seeking the path less traveled in faith
Prepping yourself for the moment you release it
The person inside you that you no longer hate
Stepping out of the shadows and into the sun
Showing light to the secret you’ve been holding so dear
Released like a butterfly from springtime cocoon
Beauty no longer shrouded by worry and fear
Perfect and flawless, the you that’s inside
The struggles, the fears, the despair overcome
Out with the world and beaming with pride
You hold your head high, a new journey has begun
Now open and honest and feeling more whole
With a smile, and a heart, and a warriors soul
Not a hero, not a martyr just a person brave and true
Confident now embracing that “it’s okay to be YOU”

-A Better You-

Oh to be different than the way that we are
Pills for the pain, plastic surgery for scars.
Learning life lessons, a failure at a time
Drying the tears, like clothes on a line
You hope and you pray that this time will be different
But life like the weather, is uncontrollable and inconsistent
We fight with all we have through the wind and the rain
We persist and persist, until we overcome the pain
Wounded but still able to face what lies ahead
We bury bad memories, like we bury the dead
Rising out of the ashes, to battle once more
A little more determined, than we’ve ever been before
With eyes set ahead and 2 feet in the dirt
We’ll walk through the fire, even if it hurts
Intent on the dream of a moment in control
Hanging on to our pride and never letting go
We pick up the pieces from the battles we’ve lost
And press on into the next fight, no matter the cost
It’s the human condition that leads us to survive
Though time and time again we stumble, always we rise
For no matter the storm, the rain can’t always fall
And the sun will soon shine a little brighter on us all
It’s the cycle of life built by what we go through
Trial and error to become a better you
